Animal Cell culture Laboratory

The animal cell culture laboratory is being used to study immune response and identification of biomarkers that are expressed in human cells in different disease condition, understanding the pathophysiology of neuronal diseases, in vitro antibody production by using goat PBMCs. For above mentioned projects work is being carried out on following cell lines-Monocytes (THP-1), lymphocytes (Jurkat E6.1, JM 1), Neuronal cell lines (Astrocytes, Neuroblastoma (U87MG), Glioblastoma (IMR-32), Pheochromocytoma (PC 12) etc cell lines) are undertaken for research purposes.

Biochemical Techniques:

Proteomic Facility

Advance Proteomic facilities like One Dimensional and 2-Dimensional electrophoresis routinely used for identification of biomarkers in body fluids of patients of infectious and non infectious diseases. Western blotting is also developed to confirm the biomarker specificity.

Immunological Techniques
ELISA techniques like Direct ELISA, indirect ELISA, Cell ELISA Immunoblot Analysis are being used routinely for antigen and antibody detection for diagnosis of various diseases such as Tuberculosis, Chikungunya, Herpes Simplex encephalitis helping in better patient care.

Microbiology Laboratory

Grams staining, AFB staining, culturing of CSF and other body fluids, are routinely done for providing confirmatory diagnosis of TB and other infectious diseases. BacT/Alert 3D (BioMerieux) fully automated equipment is being used for culturing of different body fluids

Molecular Biology Laboratory

Molecular diagnostics facilities such as conventional PCR, Real time PCR, LAMP assays have been developed for identification of organisms such as M.tuberculosis complex and Herpes simplex virus 1/2 from a variety of clinical samples (CSF, Blood, Pleural fluid etc.) and cultured cells.

Animal House Facility

Animal House facility was developed by Central India Institute of Medical Sciences (CIIMS) in premises of Nagpur Veterinary College, in 2009. The animal house maintains animals such as mice, which are used for various research activities such as Vaccine development, studying TB vaccines, development of disesase models of infectious diseases etc.

Training Programmes
Biochemistry Research laboratory allows students and researchers from the field of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology of Nagpur and other Universities to undergo training in various laboratory procedures. Training includes techniques like Electrophoresis, Gel chromatography, Enzyme linked Immunosorbent assay (ELISA), Dot ELISA, other Immunological techniques, Western blot, Blood cell isolation, Cell fractionation, Centrifugation, Spectroscopy, Animal cell culture, DNA and RNA isolation, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Every year M.Sc students of Biotechnology, Microbiology and Biochemistry subjects from various colleges in Nagpur, and also from Jabalpur and Raipur complete their research projects for M.Sc dissertation under the guidance of Staff of Research Laboratory.
